Residential Addition and Deck

Seeking additional space for their growing family, we were tasked with adding a first floor bedroom and bathroom suite over an existing concrete patio, and creating an engaging outdoor experience for a sloped backyard. Adding to the complexity of the project, the existing house had numerous levels that stepped down to the back of the property.

We designed the infill bedroom suite roof to extend over a concrete patio area. A large retaining wall with guardrail provides ample space for outdoor living for adults and kids. To connect this space to the main living area, we added a wood deck along the rest of the house and installed new french doors off the existing double height living room. Steps from the deck down to the backyard provide convenient access. An existing walkout basement takes advantage of even more covered space under the new deck.

As an added bonus, the additional earth from installing the retaining walls was used on site to flatten more area for kids to play.
