Garage roof deck addition

In a dense urban environment, backyard space to gather and entertain is always at a premium. This design took a roof repair project to the next level by creating a habitable deck space on top of the garage. We created an adaptable design that integrated vertical hop growing into the stairs, provided cover over the garage entrance door, and created visual privacy with a striated guardrail system of wood and cable.

Using simple materials in a meaningful way gave this design character, while decreasing the impermeable surfaces on the lot to help mitigate storm water runoff. The design also allowed the homeowners to have the outdoor space they always wanted without sacrificing their yard and gardens.
